This article is intended for customers who need to find their server hostname for hosting-related services.

What is the Default Server Hostname?

The server hostname is the unique name assigned to the server that hosts your account. It is provided in the welcome email you receive when your hosting account is set up. The email usually has the subject "New Account Information".

For example, if your server name is cpanel00, your hostname would be cpanel00.fastsecurehost.com (where "cpanel00" should be replaced with the actual server name provided in your welcome email).

Where to Find the Server Hostname

You can locate your server's name and/or hostname in various locations:

  • The welcome email (email with the subject"New Account Information").
    • If you cannot find the email, please check your spam or junk folder.
    • You may also find a copy of the welcome email on the Email History page of your Maxer account.
  • In your cPanel control panel in the right sidebar under the "Server Information" link.
  • In your Maxer client area, navigate to the "Services" page, click on your hosting account, and look for "Hostname" under the name of your hosting plan.

Uses of the Server Hostname

The default server hostname can be used for various purposes, including:

  • Email Services: Connect to IMAP, POP3, and SMTP servers for sending and receiving emails, instead of using mail.example.com (example.com would stand for your own domain).

  • FTP Access: Use it as the FTP server address for uploading and managing files, instead of using ftp.example.com (example.com would stand for your own domain).

  • Control Panel or Webmail Access: Log in to cPanel, Webmail, or WHM (for reseller and VPS accounts) using the hostname, instead of using example.com/cpanelexample.com/webmail or example.com/whm (example.com would stand for your own domain).

  • Accessing Services Before DNS Update or During DNS Propagation: If you haven't changed your domain's nameservers or DNS records yet, or if you've changed them just recently, the server hostname allows you to access your hosting services while DNS propagation is in progress.

  • Accessing Services When Using Third-Party DNS: If your domain's DNS records have been modified to point to third-party services (e.g., an external email provider or CDN), the server hostname can still be used to connect to your hosting services directly.

Using the server hostname ensures that your connections remain stable even if your domain name settings change or propagate after modifications.
