From 1st August 2025, the .ie domain registry will introduce a new redemption fee for domain names that are renewed late — that is, 40 days or more after expiry.

This fee will apply to any .ie domain name that is not renewed during the standard renewal or grace period. A similar fee already exists for many other domain extensions such as .com.

When an .ie domain name expires, there is a 75-day expiry window made up of three phases:

  1. Grace Period (40 days) – You can renew the domain name by paying the standard fee €17.99 +VAT (or less if you are enrolled in Volume Pricing).
  2. Redemption Period (30 days) – You can still renew the domain, but a €69 +VAT redemption fee applies.
  3. Deletion Period (5 days) – The domain is pending deletion and cannot be recovered. After this, it becomes available for re-registration on a first-come, first-served basis.

For more details, see our guide: Domain Expiry – The Three Phases

We encourage all clients to keep auto-renew enabled on their domain names. If the auto-renew setting is ON, domain names will be renewed 5 days before expiry, provided a valid payment method is saved (such as a credit/debit card, Direct Debit, or PayPal Billing Agreement).

If your domain names are for business or any project that is mission-critical, we recommend renewing them multiple years in advance. You can usually renew up to 10 years ahead via the Domain Renewals page in your client area.
